Awaiting Abigail is a hard rock and metal band formed in 2024, blending intense emotion, technical skill, and melodic storytelling. The band’s origins trace back to a reunion of three high school friends—Heather Hammonds, James Smith, and Laurie Barnett (Larbs)—who once played together in the band Lost Reality during the late 90s.

Each member brings a unique background: Heather, a seasoned drummer, played with bands like Faded Grace; Laurie, rooted in punk rock, performed with Dallas punk bands; and James, a trained trumpeter, spent years teaching music in schools. The band's lineup expanded with the addition of Mike and Kori Tolfa, a father-daughter duo. Kori, an accomplished keyboardist, and Mike, a guitarist with a love for aviation, completed the instrumental side of the group.

The final key addition came in mid-2024 when Abigail Hill, a talented vocalist and actress, was discovered by James. Her strong voice and magnetic stage presence quickly made her the band's frontwoman, shaping their distinctive sound.

The band’s music features dual guitars, atmospheric synthesizers, and a strong rhythmic backbone. Abigail’s powerful vocals stand out across dynamic arrangements, making their sound both unique and memorable.

They debuted at Trees in Dallas in December 2024 and have since released an EP that has gained significant airplay internationally. Some of their key tracks include the fiery anthem "I HATE YOU," the deep exploration of relationships in "FALLING UNDER," the introspective "PEOPLE PLEASER," and the bold "BAD MIND" tackling mental health.

Press reviews have highlighted their powerful sound and Abigail's commanding vocals, praising the band’s ability to blend heavy, emotional rock with melodic finesse.

"

Falling Under" by Awaiting Abigail stands as an epic, exotic journey within the realms of hard rock and metal. The track opens with ethereal, almost angelic tones, inviting the listener into a space of introspection before pulling them into a much deeper and visceral sonic experience. It’s a sublime contrast, balancing the softness of its initial notes with the intensity that unfurls as the song ventures into heavier, darker territory. This track showcases the band's ability to craft captivating atmospheres, with Abigail Hill’s voice, both powerful and fluid, acting as the guiding force through this sea of sonic contrasts.

Lyrically, "Falling Under" delves into the complexities of dysfunctional relationships, a universal theme that mirrors the band's own journey. Just as the band blends diverse elements—raw emotion, technical skill, and melodic storytelling—this song blends vulnerability and struggle. The song’s mood shifts dramatically between moments of serenity and bursts of energy, akin to the band members' own personal experiences, from their youthful days to more mature reflections. The rhythm and structure of the song, built by Heather Hammonds, James Smith, Laurie Barnett, and the Tolfa duo, conveys internal tension and turmoil, much like the band’s own emotional landscape.

"Falling Under" embodies the essence of Awaiting Abigail: a seamless blend of raw emotion and refined technicality. Its combination of heavy guitars, atmospheric synthesizers, and pounding percussion captures the spirit of a band that isn’t just striving for excellence but also seeks to tell a profound story through its music. The track feels like a journey, taking the listener from the depths of darkness to the unexpected heights of clarity. The band's sound resonates with a tribal energy, primal yet undeniable, while Abigail’s voice remains an unyielding force throughout, making the song a powerful center of emotion and intensity.
