Universal Connection - Junko: A Musical Tribute to Resilience, Culture, and the Power of Human Bonds

Publicado el 20 de mayo de 2025, 2:21

Composer and pianist Owens Huang, known by his artistic alias OHNomad, is reshaping the contemporary chamber music landscape with a mission as ambitious as it is profoundly human: to connect cultures and personal memories through the universal language of music. His latest work, “Universal Connection - Junko”, a stunning trio for flute, cello, and piano, will be released globally on May 1, 2025 as part of his most intimate and expansive musical project to date: Universal Connection.

🎼 Music as a Bridge Between Worlds

This third installment in the Universal Connection series is more than a composition—it’s a love letter to identity, resilience, and cultural beauty. Each piece in this project is named after a real friend, someone whose cultural heritage and personal story have inspired OHNomad to explore musical traditions from around the world, including Israel, Japan, Taiwan, India, Iran, Russia, and Tibet.

With Junko, the composer pays tribute to a remarkable woman—an elder in Japan, a brilliant architectural designer, and a figure of quiet strength who embodies the soul of a nation. In OHNomad’s own words:

"Nothing in this world stands alone. Every object is a link in an endless chain. Junko, with her soft but unwavering gaze and the delicate lines of time on her face, stands rooted in the deep soil of her culture—dignified, resilient, and deeply moving."

🎶 Turning Memory into Music

Performed by flutist Ann Kuo, cellist Keina Satoh, and pianist Chi-Jo Lee—all long-time collaborators of OHNomad on works such as Places of Origin, Rosenwald, and DanielleUniversal Connection - Junko was recorded on November 8, 2024 at Allegro Recordings by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matthew Snyder.

The piece had its live premiere on October 18, 2024, in Mountain View, California, and is set to be performed in Tokyo on May 20, 2025, bringing this cultural tribute full circle.

🌏 A Philosophy of Global Harmony

Junko exists within a larger universe of sound. Universal Connection as a series is OHNomad’s attempt to weave the tonal languages of different cultures into shared, harmonious conversations. A previous piece, Universal Connection - Danielle, honored a young girl tragically killed in the Hamas attack at the Supernova Music Festival in Israel. There, the flute became Danielle’s voice, while the clarinet expressed her father’s grief and love.

This is the ethos behind Universal Connection: music not just as art, but as remembrance, empathy, and connection.

🎧 Listen. Feel. Remember.

OHNomad doesn’t just write music—he crafts invisible bridges between geographies, identities, and emotions. With Universal Connection - Junko, he has written more than a score: he has engraved a memory, a cultural tribute, and a spiritual dialogue into sound.

If you’ve ever doubted that music can heal or unite us—listen to Junko.

And you’ll understand: we are all part of something greater. We are all connected.
